Jo Swinson has received a vicious backlash for mentioning Brexit during the Climate Debate on Channel 4. Social media users hit out at the Liberal Democrat leader’s mention of Brexit as soon as the debate started. Ms Swinson called Brexit a “climate crime”.
Speaking on Channel 4’s climate debate, Mr Swinson said: “The climate crisis is even more important than Brexit.
“But Brexit is a climate crime.
“It is morally wrong to leave our seat at the table and give up our influence to create the change we need right across the world.
“We have two paths ahead of us.
“One where are children will have a poisoned planet or one where out children will breathe clean air where going green is the easier and cheaper option where we protect our planet for future generations.”
Channel 4 viewers took to Twitter to vent their rage.
One said: “She’d sell her own mother if it meant staying in the EU.”
Another added: “I was wondering how long Jo Swinson would make it before mentioning Brexit. She lasted just a few seconds.“
A third person said: “Wonder if Jo Swinson is going to bring every question back to brexit, just like Johnson did at the ITV debate, maybe she could have a catchy mantra too, ‘Get Brexit Undone’?”
Dozens of people hit out at Ms Swinson for “making climate change about Brexit”.
It comes as the Liberal Democrat leader faced online backlash earlier.
Ms Swinson appeared emotional and nearly broke down as she criticised the Prime Minister over the way he handled the case involving Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.
Ms Swinson claimed the Prime Minister only cares about himself, but quickly received a furious response for her comments.
One online commentator wrote: “Jo Swinson doing fake weepy wobbles in her speech would be amusing if it wasn’t so menacing.”
Another quickly added: “Jo Swinson why don’t you resign instead of talking down political counter parties”.
A third online commentator said: “Jo Swinson not a very caring comment about Boris’ knowledge of tech. Bad acting with attempting to cry. Not even a watery eye. You have lost many votes from that stunt
